Communograph Welcome Center
Communograph Welcome Center is a collaborative interactive project designed for Project Row Houses Welcome Center in Houston, Texas’ Historic Third Ward. The Project was done by University of Houston Graphic Communication class of 2012. The Welcome Center at Project Row Houses functions as a community meeting place for events, lectures, meeting, films and social gatherings. The goal is to create a flexible and inspiring space that can be utilized to best suit the needs of the community.
Designers Kenneth Grove, Sara Faizpour, Valerie Cortez, Tianwei YU, Thao Huynh and Taylor Weaver were responsible for the Welcome Wall. The Welcome Wall provides visitors insight into the history of the Third Ward and Project Row Houses. Using panels hung on the pipe and rail system, the entrance wall displays written summaries and photos about the organization and history of the area. Since the Welcome Center space shows films, a curtain that consists of three sliding canvas panels covers a large window. To expand our understanding of Project Row Houses, the panels are designed using carefully selected photographs of the community. To provide further insight about the people of the community, a station for viewing a documentary of the Third Ward is provided.
